Venture Lititz: Behind the Scenes
Have you noticed a change in Lititz in the last five years? Many do, but they can’t put their finger on exactly what the change is. They do know, however, that it is for the good, and more than likely Venture Lititz was involved.
We at Venture Lititz are always a little surprised when someone says “we don’t know what Venture Lititz does.” We have concluded the reason so many don’t know or understand what we do is because so much of what we do is behind the scenes. We are facilitators and we facilitate change.
Venture Lititz is a small non-profit whose mission is to enhance and sustain the social and commercial vibrancy of the Lititz community by creating an environment which attracts people, investment and commerce through the promotion of existing community resources, development of new resources and preservation, and celebration of heritage.
Having adopted a new strategic plan, we are planning and developing in several areas.
One of the areas we are working is the engagement of our services business to develop a business-to-business network that will strengthen our local economy. Our first focus/planning meeting is going to be held on Monday, March 31, 7 p.m., at Lititz Borough Council Chambers. Please come and share your ideas on how we can better communicate among businesses, educate one another on our businesses, better marketing, networking and sharing best practices. Please call 626-6332 if you would like to attend.
Be on the lookout for a new Historic Walking Tour for the downtown. We are not sure of the launch date at this time. A committee of Venture Lititz, Lititz Historical Foundation, town historians and Tutoria have been working for several months to bring a new and innovative way of experiencing our town’s historic stories. More to come.
Downtown Spring Cleaning is planned for Saturday, May 3 at 8 a.m. in front of the Lititz Borough office. Please come and join a large group of volunteers to help clean up debris, weed, mulch and give a general spruce-up to the business district. If you would like to help or would like more information, call 626-6332.
The Lititz Farmers Market will be opening on Saturday, May 10 at 8 a.m. on Water Street next to Appalachian Brewing Company. We are planning a great year with many of the favorite vendors returning, and a few really great new participants. The Friends of Market (a volunteer group that works to enhance the market experience) are busy planning fun and educational activities for the market. Opening day is Garden Day. For more information or to become a Friend of Market, call 626-6332.
Until last year Venture did not do much other than support other organizations in special events. Having won America’s CoolestSmallTown we quickly started planning how we could celebrate the designation. In a few short months we planned and executed the May celebration, June redo, Cool Pool Party, a fundraising event and discussed a New Year’s Eve celebration. The celebration committee decided that there was not enough time to have a New Year’s Eve party, but they are now planning one for 2014. The committee is also planning another community celebration for June, and a fundraiser in October.
Continue to look for “Behind the Scenes” articles for information on various activities and opportunities to participate, volunteering and idea sharing.
Kelly Withum is the executive director of Venture Lititz. Her office is located at 7 S. Broad St., but she can often be found out and about around town. Give her a call at 626-6332 to get involved.
