Walter C. ‘Walt’ Popejoy, 72, Benner’s Pharmacy owner, Heart of Lancaster volunteer, loved Christmas inflatables

Walter C. “Walt” Popejoy, 72, of Lititz passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Lafayette, Ind., he was the son of the late Walter B. and Ida L. (Cohee) Popejoy. He was the loving husband of Carrell (Walker) Popejoy, with whom he shared 16 years of marriage.

Walt was a 1962 graduate of Elmer L. Meyers High School in Wilkes-Barre, and later graduated from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science.

He was the owner of Benner’s Pharmacy in Lititz for nearly 30 years. After retiring, he assisted other pharmacies and volunteered at the Heart of Lancaster Medical Center for more than five years, where he was named volunteer of the year. Walt was a member of various clubs and associations in the Lititz area.

Walt loved traveling, camping, his family, dogs, his collection of Coca-Cola merchandise, and had an affinity with Christmas inflatables.

In addition to his wife, Carrell, he is survived by his children: Wally Popejoy, husband of Audra, of Lebanon; Sherri Morgan, wife of Tony, of Halifax; Kristina Garman, wife of Dennis, of Manheim; and Geoffrey Bloomer of Fayetteville, N.C. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Hannah, Gavin, Owen, Davis, Gage, Abby; a sister: Charolette Popejoy of Wallingford, Conn.; and a brother: William Popejoy of Pennsylvania. He is also survived by a host of others that considered him “Pa Pa.”

A celebration of Walt’s life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory, Lititz. Interment will be in Witness Park, Lititz. A viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15, at the funeral home; and again one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday.
