Vernon C. Mock Jr., 76, Vietnam vet, H.R.G. Engineering building code specialist, sports coach

Vernon C. Mock Jr. 76, of Manheim, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016, at Masonic Village of Elizabethtown.

Born in West Grove, he was the son of the late Erma (Rice) and Vernon C. Mock Sr.

He was a 1958 graduate of Octorara High School. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, earning The Army Commendation Medal for his meritorious service. He worked for H.R.G. Engineering Firm as a building code specialist. Vernon was the track and field and cross country coach at Thaddeus Steven College of Technology; an assistant basketball coach at Catholic High, and head basketball coach at Wheatland Junior High.

He is survived by his three sons: Vernon Christopher Mock of Africa; Andrew Percy Mock of Narvon; and Aaron J. Mock of Manheim; three grandchildren; and siblings: Frances E. Wallace of Parkesburg; and Susan R. Trago of Gap.

Services were held Aug. 5 at Wilde Funeral Home, Parkesburg. Interment was at Faggs Manor Cemetery of Cochranville.
