Thomas W. Shoemaker, 55, of Mount Wolf, formerly of Lancaster and Lititz, passed away Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Caroline (Klingseisen) Shoemaker and the late William A. Shoemaker. He was the loving husband of Meryl (Schmidt), with whom he celebrated 31 years of marriage.

He was a graduate of Lampeter-Strasburg High School where he excelled in track and football. After graduating, he worked with his father at the former Kirchoff Co. in Neffsville and later became a sheet metal mechanic and supervisor with the Walton and Co. in York. Tom was instrumental in the construction of Brethren Village Retirement Community. He also built a passive solar home in Owl Hill Terrace in Lititz where he and his family lived for 11 years. Tom enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family.

The family would like to thank Dr. Annie Kannarkatt and the staff at the Cancer Care Associates of York for their compassion and care for Tom during his courageous battle.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his four sons: Lee Thomas Shoemaker of Bremerton, Wash.; Eric William Shoemaker of Etters; Dominic Richard “Nic” Shoemaker of York; Logan Joseph Shoemaker of Mt. Wolf; and his daughter: Holly Anne Shoemaker of Lock Haven. Also surviving are five sisters: Dr. Patricia Shoemaker of Macungie; Carol Brown, wife of David of Lancaster; Barbara Imhoff, wife of Larry of Lititz; Mary Ellen Knosp, wife of Jere, of Lititz; and Nancy Pachucki, wife of Doug, of Wind Lake, Wisc.

Services were held Jan. 14 at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Millersville. Interment was private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tom’s memory may be made to The Cancer Patient Help Fund, 25 Monument Road, Suite 194, York, PA 17403.
