Ruth Martin Miller, 100, worked at the family farm, had a loving spirit, Meals on Wheels volunteer

Ruth Martin Miller, 100, formerly of Elizabethtown and Mount Joy, has passed into the waiting arms of the Lord she loved on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at United Zion Retirement Community, Lititz, where she was a resident for the past five years.
Born in Elizabethtown on Feb. 14, 1917, she was the daughter of the late, Irvin N. and Elizabeth Martin Heisey. She was the loving wife of Rufus S. Miller for 74 years, before his passing in February 2012.
Ruth was devoted to her Lord and family. She was a kind and gracious person who thought of others first. In her early married life she worked with her husband at the Hershey Units as a cook and then spent long hours working with her husband to help make the family farm and hatchery prosper. For several years, Ruth, was an Avon representative and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
Ruth was a member of Mount Calvary Church, Elizabethtown. Over the years she visited many churches accompanying her husband, a Gideon representative, and was herself a member of the Gideon Auxiliary. It was very fitting that Ruth was born on Valentine’s Day, as her loving spirit and caring nature was a blessing to all who knew her.
Surviving is a son: Kenneth L., husband of Brandy (Schleeh) Miller, of California; a daughter: Carol A., wife of Edwin Landis, of Mount Joy; two grandchildren: Jodi Landis, wife of David Kerlin, of Mount Joy; Jenny Landis, wife of Chris Wawrzyniak, of Elizabethtown; and two great-grandchildren: Tiffany Hernandez and Wyatt Wawrzyniak.
Services were held May 20 at Buch Funeral Home, Mount Joy. Interment in Bainbridge Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send contributions in Ruth’s memory to Gideon’s International – Lancaster West, P.O. Box 194 Manheim PA 17545.
