Rev. Roy J. Peterman, Manheim BIC minister, enjoyed travel, reading

The Rev. Roy J. Peterman of Manheim, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015, at his home.
Born in Carlisle to the late Raymond and Myrtle Peterman, Roy was the husband of Lois Jean Kreider Peterman for 58 years.
He is survived by three daughters: Joyce Hughes, wife of Shaun, Manheim; Nancy Payne, wife of George, Harrisburg; and Carol Hess, wife of Dale, Mount Joy; and five grandchildren: Mallory, Laura, Eli, and Jacob Hess; and Alyssa Payne. He is also survived by his twin brother: Ralph Peterman, husband of Lois, Carlisle; and brother: Howard Peterman, husband of Carol, Marysville.
As a child, Roy accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at the age of 11. During his years at Messiah College (1953-1957), he felt the call to pastoral studies and, in 1960, went on to earn his Master of Divinity degree at Eastern Baptist Seminary in Philadelphia. Years later, in 1983, he completed his Doctor of Ministry degree at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif.
He was privileged to serve as a pastor for the Brethren in Christ Church Conference for over four decades, serving at the Manor Brethren in Christ Church (1960-1970); Cross Roads Brethren in Christ Church (1970-1975); Wainfleet Brethren in Christ Church, Ontario, Canada (1975-1981); Manheim Brethren in Christ Church (1981-1994 and 2003-2007); Pequea Brethren in Christ Church (1994-1997); Mount Pleasant Brethren in Christ Church (1997-2000); and Hempfield Brethren in Christ Church (2000-2002).
In addition to his role as pastor and shepherd, Roy served the church in numerous other ways throughout his life. He officiated at countless weddings and funerals, visited community and church families in their homes and the hospital, and encouraged many to join him in the family of God. Roy was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, sports, travel, and playing table games with his family.
Services were held Oct. 11 at Manheim Brethren in Christ Church.
Those desiring may send memorial contributions in Roy’s memory to Brethren in Christ World Missions, P.O. Box 390, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; or Manheim Brethren in Christ Church, 54 N. Penryn Road, Manheim, PA 17545.
