Paul G. Hess, M.D.94, Lititz Family Practice doctor, physician in Europe during WWII
Paul G. Hess, M.D., 94, of Lititz, passed away at Luther Acres on July 14, 2012.
Born in Terre Hill, he was the son of the late Harry W. and Elizabeth Good Hess. He was married for 70 years to Revenda "Tunner" Hess who passed away in February of 2012.
Paul received his B.S. from Elizabethtown College and his doctorate from Hahnemann Medical School. He served as Headquarters Co. physician in Europe with the U.S. Army during World War II. Dr. Hess began his practice in Lititz in 1946. With the addition of Dr. Swan and Dr. Holder, the practice became the home of a new family practice, Hess, Swan, & Holder. In 1976, the office became Lititz Family Practice and moved to its current location which in 1996 became known as the Lancaster General Medical Group. Paul retired in 1984.
He served on the boards of Farmers First Bank and Lititz Mutual Insurance Company and their affiliates: Penn Charter Mutual, Farmers & Mechanics Mutual and Livingston Mutual. In addition, he was also a member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society and the American Medical Society. An avid golfer, he belonged to the Lebanon Country Club for many years.
He is survived by his sons: P. Michael, husband of Brenda Hess, of Lititz; David J., husband of Marty Hess, of Lititz; grandchildren: Chad M., husband of Cathy Hess; Jaime, wife of Duane Bushong; Matthew, husband of Jane Hess; Benjamin S. Hess; and Carly M. Hess; and great-grandson: Logan Bushong.
He was preceded in death by brothers: Roy and Rev. Robert Hess; and a sister: Ruth Balsbaugh.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation with the family on July 20 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 W. Orange St., Lititz, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Chiques Cemetery, Manheim.
