Martha L. Cartwright, 98, former head librarian at Lititz Public Library, Braille transcriber

Martha L. Cartwright, 98, of Lititz, passed away Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, at Moravian Manor.

She was the wife of Gerald Dale Cartwright, with whom she celebrated 66 years of marriage this past Aug. 18. Born in Bellevue, she was the daughter of the late Harry L. and Charmion A. Mohler Giles.

Martha loved reading and the library, having served for many years as the head librarian at the Lititz Public Library when it was located at Marion and Broad streets in Lititz. She enjoyed weaving, and had transcribed books into Braille.

Martha had earned an associate degree from the George Washington University, and her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in American history from Millersville University.

In addition to her husband: Dale; she is survived by her daughters: Jennifer L. Cartwright, married to Douglas Gray, of Landaff, N.H.; and Katharine A. Cartwright, married to Dan Verrillo, of Spruce Head, Maine; her grandson: Van Keith Herridge Jr. of Spruce Head, Maine; and her sister; Margaret J. Noble of Virginia.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
