Deaths of Local Interest

Lucille (Tremblay) Grimsey, 83, of Elizabethtown, passed away Feb. 7 at Conestoga View in Lancaster. Lucille had been a member of Hosanna Christian Fellowship in Lititz. She liked to laugh and have fun, and loved her church.

Ruth Rosa Haas, 88, of Lancaster, died Feb. 5, in her home. Born in Esslingen, Germany, Ruth moved to Lancaster and immediately fell in love with her new community. Always the social butterfly, Ruth immersed herself with a weekly Dominoes group and enjoyed baking, especially Heffekranz, a German sweet bread. Traveling was a passion of Ruth’s, domestically in the family RV and abroad. Ruth was a member of the Lancaster Liederkranz, where she enjoyed the German beer.

Amanda C. Leisey, 87, of Ephrata, passed from this world to the next on Feb. 7 at Lancaster Care and Rehab. Amanda was a gentle and loving woman who enjoyed reading, traveling, playing Mahjong, and caring for her grandchildren and her animals. A sister, Ellen V. Ruth, lives in Lititz.

Betty Jane Nashwinter, formerly of Gap, was called home Feb. 7, at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim. Betty worked as an inspector for U.S. Steel. Later, she was a bookkeeper for Green Giant until her retirement. She was a registered volunteer for the Lancaster County Office of Aging for more than 30 years. She enjoyed yard sales, cooking, and crocheting.

Sara Ann “Pinky” Wentz, 98, of Lancaster, passed away at Pleasant View Retirement Home, Manheim, on Feb. 1. During World War II, Sara Ann worked for Hamilton Watch and was married to James W. Wentz. After returning from overseas Jim was stationed in San Francisco where Sara Ann joined him. After he completed his service in the Navy, they returned to Lancaster. Jim began his career in real estate and while raising their two sons, Sara Ann worked as secretary for James W. Wentz Insurance and Appraisal, Lancaster. She loved raising and training their German Shepherds.
