Leroy Hoffman, 74, CVHS science teacher and track coach, PIAA track official, Eagle Scout

Leroy Hoffman, 74, of Lititz, passed away Feb. 19, 2016 at the Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy.

Born in Dover, he was the son of the late George and Charlotte (Hirt) Hoffman. Leroy was the husband of Beverly (Zeller) Hoffman.

Leroy was a member of Church of the Apostles. He belonged to the New Beginnings class. Leroy graduated from Central High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from Millersville State College and his M.Ed from West Chester State College. He also took a course at the University of Delaware. He taught science at Conestoga Valley High School and retired in 1999. He was head track coach and cross country coach. He broke school records in his college career in the discus and performed well in the shot-put. He was a track official in the Lancaster PIAA. He was an Eagle Scout and a judge for the Lancaster County Science Fair.

Surviving in addition to his wife: Beverly; are two sons: David H., husband of Lisa; and Timothy, husband of Janet; six grandchildren: Andrew, Christopher, Michael, Mary, Sarah, and Matthew; and five siblings: Linda Brown, Gerald Hoffman, Charlotte Winters, John Hoffman, and Joyce Teare.

Leroy was preceded in death by five siblings: Dawn Sechrist, George Hoffman, Bonnie Kitzmiller, Glen Hoffman, and Nancy Harris.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 26, at Church of the Apostles United Church of Christ, 1850 Marietta Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603, with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m., officiated by Rev. Kathryn Kuhn.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Pennsylvania Chapter, 2595 Interstate Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110; or to the Church of the Apostles, at the above address.
