J. Russel Kulp 84, Luther Acres president, Korea vet
J. Russel Kulp, 84, of Luther Acres, passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Morris D. and Elsie Witmer Kulp. He was the husband of Hazel M. Nauman Kulp for 59 years.
Formerly of Elizabethtown and Mount Joy, Russel was employed by the former AMP, Inc. at their Elizabethtown plant for 36 years, retiring in 1989. In retirement he drove cars for J. Mark Martin of Manheim until 2004. Russel was a member of Mount Joy Church of God. A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U. S. Army, was a life member of the American Legion, Post 329 of Elizabethtown and a member of Ampra Nimrods. Known for his long stitch pictures he created, Russel won numerous ribbons at local fairs where he exhibited them. He enjoyed collecting Hummel’s and loved to go to the beach and travel.
Russel’s family would like to thank the staff of Luther Acres and Hospice and Community Care for their loving support and excellent care.
In addition to his wife, Russel will be missed by his three daughters: Deborah, wife of Robert Smeal of Maytown, Michele, wife of Richard Yohe of Harrisburg, and Amy, wife of James Miller of Mount Joy; five grandchildren: Duane (Jami) Smeal, Timothy (Audrey) Smeal, Laura Yohe (Hassan) Ada, and Mary and Liesa Miller; five great-grandchildren: Courtney and Ryan Weber, Alexis and Dylan Smeal, and Nizar Ada.
He was preceded in death by two sisters.
A Memorial Service to honor Russel’s life will be held at Sheetz Funeral Home, 16 E. Main St., Mount Joy Dec.13 at 7 p.m. There will be no public viewing; however, Russel’s family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. Military honors will be accorded by Red Rose Veteran’s Honor Guard. Interment will be private.
