Harold Thomas Wert, 66, Tom Wert Construction owner, had a lifelong passion for the outdoors

Harold Thomas “Tom” Wert, 66, of Manheim, died peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Harold W. and Mary Hepner Wert. Tom was the loving husband of Grace E. Frey Wert, and they would have observed their 45th wedding anniversary in October.

Tom worked in the building industry most of his life. From 1993 until the present time he was the owner and operator of Tom Wert Construction; previously he was a construction supervisor for Horst Construction.

Tom was an active and faithful member of Grace Point Church of the Nazarene, Ephrata. In his early years he was a member of Erisman Mennonite Church, Manheim, and taught Sunday school and helped with the Boy’s Club program at the church.

Tom had a life-long passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and trapping. He shared his passion for the outdoors as a member and leader of the Lancaster County Sportsmen for Youth. He was a member of the Manheim Sportsman Association, founder and leader of the Indoor Archery League; and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Grace, are two daughters: Tonya M., wife of Kelly Saylor, of Manheim; Jodi C., wife of Jordan Wolgemuth, of Lititz; a son: H. Anthony, husband of Kate Wert, of Landisville, two grandchildren: Isaac and Jacob; two brothers: Stephen L., husband of Kathy Wert, of Elizabethtown; John, husband of Milonica Stahl-Wert, of Pittsburgh; two sisters: Jeanne M., wife of John Brubaker, of Mount Joy; Janice M., wife of Ernest Miller, of Elizabethtown, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death is a brother-in-law: Dale Witmer.

Services were held Aug. 6 at Grace Point Church of the Nazarene, Ephrata. Interment was in Penryn Cemetery.
