Dr. Harry L. Steffy, 90, WWII vet, Ephrata physician, Holy Trinity Lutheran choir member

Dr. Harry L. Steffy, 90, of Lititz, and formerly a longtime resident of Ephrata, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016 at Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center in Lititz.

Harry and his loving wife, Thelma J. (Gehman) Steffy, would have celebrated 70 years of marriage on Dec. 21.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Rosalind S., wife of Gary G. Krafft; and Nancy K., wife of Jay R. Balmer, all of Ephrata; daughter-in-law: Dr. Brigette Haagen-Steffy of Lititz; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and a 10th on-the-way.

Harry was preceded in death by his son: Dr. Brian D. Steffy; his parents: Harry W. and Ada (Hacker) Steffy; his brother: Eugene Steffy; and his sister: Myrtle Martin.

Harry was born and raised in Ephrata and graduated from Ephrata High School in 1944. He then served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

A proud graduate of Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Harry later earned his medical degree from the Philadelphia School of Osteopathy. In 1955 he opened his general medical practice in Ephrata which he operated for 26 years.

Harry was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ephrata, where he sang on the choir. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason and member of Ephrata Lodge No. 665 F&AM.

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family and are under the care of Gravenor Home For Funerals, Ephrata.
