Dorothy Ritchey Ringer passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, at her home in Ewing, N.J.

Dorothy was a beloved wife and devoted mother of five, caring and respected nurse, tireless community and church volunteer, gentle grandmother and aunt, and kind and supportive friend.

She was married to William Bishop Ringer of Lititz, where the couple resided for some time. The Ringers celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2015.

Dorothy Louise was the daughter of Bessie Burgess and Vernon L. Ritchey. She was born on March 5, 1924 in Verona, and graduated from Bloomfield High in New Jersey in 1941. She received her R.N. credentials from the University of Virginia School of Nursing in 1948.

She married William in 1950. After his military service took them to Baltimore and Newcastle, they lived in his home town, Lititz, before settling in Bethlehem in 1956. She focused on their growing family there while Bill worked as an accountant for the former Western Electric in Allentown. She volunteered at the local schools, was a scout leader, and participated in many church-related activities at Midway Manor Moravian Church in Allentown, including singing alto in the senior choir. She also worked at Bethlehem’s Holy Family Manor nursing facility for over 10 years.

In 1998, the couple moved to North Port, Fla., where she became an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church and for over 10 years volunteered for Special Time, a care-giver’s respite program. The couple moved to Ewing in 2015.

Music-lover Dorothy was an accomplished cook, seamstress and needle-worker, a deft bridge partner, and an enthusiastic traveler. She was a life-long book lover, especially fiction; and remained a loyal fan of the Tampa Bay Rays. To her, however, nothing was as important as family.

She is survived by her husband; children: Suzanne Napoleon of North Port, Fla.; Sarah Ringer of Princeton, N.J.; Patricia Gasdaska (Charles) of Shrewsbury, Mass.; Martha Teel (David) of Allentown; and William Ringer (Allison) of Belmar, N.J.; sister: Evelyn Smith of East Stroudsburg; brother William Ritchey (Ann) of Venice, Fla.; and eight of her nine grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Dec. 26 at Calvary Moravian Church, Allentown.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 4285 Wesley Lane, North Port, FL 34287.
