Doris S. Moskalski, 96, WWII WAC vet, teacher, active volunteer, Senior Games blue ribbon winner

Doris S. Moskalski, 96, of Lititz, passed away on July 5, 2018, at Luther Acres Retirement Community.

Born in Wattsburg, she was the daughter of the late DeForest and Olga (Carpenter) Sammons. Doris was the loving wife of the late Michael J. Moskalski.

A U.S. Women’s Army Corps veteran, she served in Italy and Algiers during World War II. She was a teacher for the New Kensington-Arnold School District. Doris volunteered at Luther Acres, the Lititz Library, and the Landis Valley Museum, where she was recognized as the Volunteer of the Year. She also loved to travel. Doris participated in the Senior Games and won many blue ribbons. Participating in senior bowling leagues was a weekly activity. She was very involved with family attending many events, which included sports, band performances, plays, and recitals.

Surviving is a son: Michael Moskalski, husband of Norene; a daughter: Frances Bowman, wife of Jeff; five grandchildren: Susanne Moskalski; Lisa Rutherford; Kimberly Planck, wife of David; Meredith Fielder, wife of Nathan; and Allison Brent, wife of Will; five great-grandchildren: Abigail, Natalie, Avery, Hewitt, and Parker.

Doris was preceded in death by siblings: Howard and Charles Sammons, and Grace Wilkins.

A viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m., with a funeral service to begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 16, at Luther Acres Chapel, 250 St. Luke Drive, Lititz. Doris will be laid to rest at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with military honors.
