Deaths of Local Interest – Feb. 25, 2016

George Meredith Bookman Jr., died Valentine’s Day at the Glen in Willow Valley. He was commissioned a Second lieutenant in the U. S. Air Force. He served as a company commander in Korea. He worked for International Harvester, and was vice president of State Equipment Co. George loved his family, his friends, Christmas, Westerns, his 1951 MG, the backyard fish pond, Kilmer and VMI. His daughter, Lisa Bookman Mears, wife of Gary, lives in Lititz

Elaine N. Gamber, 90, died Feb. 20 at Susquehanna Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Elaine was a homemaker most of her life, but was very proud of her previous job as a glass cutter for the Susquehanna Glass Co.. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church. Her granddaughter, Melinda, wife of Dr. George Georgelis, lives in Lititz.

Hattie A. Faltine, 87, of Lancaster, died Feb. 22 at Lancaster General Hospital. Hattie was a cafeteria worker for the School District of Lancaster for many years. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Lancaster and was a former Eastern Star member. Her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pat and Jack Tomlinson, live in Lititz.

S.G. “Bud” Fletcher, 88, of Lancaster, passed away Feb. 13 at Magnolias of Lancaster. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Bud was in the electrical business for 56 years and was the founder and president of Boston Electric and Engineering Co. in Allegheny County and president of Lancaster Electric Inc. in Lancaster. Bud invented and patented several electric control devices. He was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ, Ephrata. His daughter, Ruthanne, wife of Fred Wood, lives in Lititz.

C. Edwin Martin, 84, of Bowmansville, died Feb. 18 at the Reading Hospital. He was part owner of Terre Hill Silo Co., for almost 40 years and was the head mechanic for all of the company’s vehicles. He liked to cook and was known as the “mashed potato king.” He loved gospel music. The following surviving relatives reside in Lititz: son, Barry L., married to Patricia Martin; and sister, Laura J., married to Paul W. Weaver.
