Deaths of Local Interest – Aug. 3, 2017

Imogene E. Evaston, 86, died July 21 at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim, after a lengthy illness. Imogene retired from Precision Machine Co., where she had been employed for 37 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lancaster.

Harold L. Gebhard passed away into the loving arms of his Savior on July 27. Harold proudly served his country for 23½ years in the United States Air Force, followed by 33 years of service to the U.S. Postal Service. He was a Master Mason, a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Hadji Shrine. Harold loved his country and volunteered and served in Vietnam. A sister-in-law, Katherine Gebhard, lives in Manheim.

Miles S. Martin, 75, of Martindale, died at his home on July 31. He retired in 1997 after working 32 years at New Holland Pipe Plant. He was a member of Martindale Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference. His brother, Murray, married to Mary (Zeiset) Martin, lives in Lititz.

Lauretta “Dotty” Hess Pollock, 91, formerly of Waynesboro and Millersville, passed away July 26 at Brethren Village, Lititz. She married Robert Hugh Pollock from Punxsutawney in 1952 and took on the roles of bookkeeper and secretary for the growing family business, Hagerstown Cash Register Inc. After her husband died, Dotty continued in the family business as CFO until she sold the business a few years later. Dotty’s biggest joy was family; she looked forward to creating and spending special times with her brothers and sisters, children, grandchildren and extended family. She could always be counted on in times of need.

Jay J. Stoltzfus, 83, formerly of Paradise, passed away July 31. He attended Keystone Church of Paradise. Jay drove a truck for Victor Weaver Inc., of New Holland, worked for Messner Brothers of Terre Hill, did lawn care, worked for David Esh of Gordonville, and provided transportation to the Amish community. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing, camping, and playing cards, and was an avid Phillies fan. His sister, Fern Dull, lives in Manheim.
