Dale S. Rice, 70, Vietnam vet, roofer at Skyline, enjoyed playing cards and shuffleboard

Dale S. Rice, 70, of Lititz, passed away on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at home.

He was born in Lancaster County to the late Earl V. and Betty Jane (Haines) Rice, and was the husband of Bonnie (Yeakel) Rice, with whom he shared 40 years of marriage on April 11.

Dale was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam war, where he received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He worked as a roofer for Skyline for many years. Dale enjoyed sports, playing cards, horse racing, and he participated in shuffleboard leagues.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Ryan M. Rice; Joey E. Rice, husband of Natalie (Schneider); and Ashley Faylin Rice; a grandson: Jackson; three sisters: Andrea, wife of Lincoln Longstaff; Tobye, wife of James Satterwhite; and Kelley, wife of Brian Hollow; an aunt: Thelma Buchter; and an uncle: John Rice.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, Sept. 14, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut St., Denver. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., with Rev. Timothy L. Craven officiating. Interment will take place at 1:30 p.m. in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded.
