Spend this Saturday at Town Square
Sample delicious food, sing and dance to the music, interact with street performers, and reconnect with friends and neighbors at Pleasant View Retirement Community’s Saturday in Town Square event, on Saturday, May 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. throughout Pleasant View’s Town Square area.
Sponsored by Hospice for All Seasons and WITF, this free, family-friendly event welcomes the community to Pleasant View’s campus, and will be held rain or shine.
Music and entertainment are always a highlight, and this year is no exception. Beginning at 10 a.m., guests will enjoy tunes provided by The Nomads, a classic rock and roll band playing songs from the fifties and sixties. Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy dance performances by students of Cricket’s Performing Arts, interact with street performers as the Magic of Daniel Clemente and Cissy and the Man will be roaming through the Town Square, and have a picture taken in a photo booth, provided by Photo Ole Photography. The Lancaster County K9 Unit will be on campus to demonstrate the extensive training and skills of their dogs, and the essential functions they provide to the community.
New this year, a petting zoo will offer all visitors the chance to touch, pet, and even feed a variety of gentle animals including a Peruvian alpaca, a miniature Sicilian donkey, sheep, several breeds of friendly goats, exotic chickens and ducks, hand-tamed bunny rabbits, and Indian fantail doves. In addition to the petting zoo, face painting, games, and an obstacle course round out the variety of activities for families to experience.
Guests can start the day with Pleasant View Auxiliary’s breakfast sandwiches and coffee, and then enjoy lunch items including hot dogs, beef barbecue sandwiches, and drinks. The Manheim Hearts-N-Hands Sertoma Club will serve hamburgers, cheeseburgers, French fries and drinks. Guests can mix their own flavor combinations of kettle corn at Uncle Jerry’s Kettle Corn bar, savor whoopee pies made by the Manheim Central Republican Committee, or sample soft pretzels and baked potato soup at the Ruth Mackley Democratic Club and Manheim Democratic Committee’s food stand. Visitors can satisfy their sweet tooth at the Pleasant View Auxiliary bake sale and cotton candy stand, and enjoy an ice cream sundae scooped by Pleasant View staff members.
For those looking to de-clutter their homes and safeguard personal information, community shredding will be provided by the local municipalities of Rapho Township, Penn Township, and Manheim Borough. During the Saturday in Town Square event, guests are asked to donate at least one non-perishable food item to the Manheim Central Food Pantry, and, in return, can have one box or bag of paper materials safely shredded.
Parking will be available on Pleasant View’s campus, 544 N. Penryn Road, Manheim, throughout the day. For more details and updates on Saturday in Town Square, visit PleasantViewrc.org.
