Mount Hope celebrates 30 years of Poe

By on October 21, 2015

Beginning Oct. 31, Mount Hope Estate & Winery will begin the 30th season of Poe Evermore. Guests will enjoy three different performances inside the rooms of the stately mansion, portrayed by the evening’s host and her assortment of guests.

World-famous Dr. Theodora Ellison, self-proclaimed “Collector of Bodily Oddities,” welcomes you and yours to the grand opening of the Mount Hope Menagerie of the Macabre! The good doctor has had some trouble getting the Menagerie off the ground, but with the help of her strange assistants and the addition of a very special guest, she hopes to pack the halls with patrons. See Mr. Edgar Allan Poe in the flesh, as he and the others share some of the brilliant writer’s most grotesque work.

“The Tell-Tale Heart” – A psychological thriller told by an unknown narrator who can’t seem to ignore the haunting sounds of a heartbeat coming from down below.

“Berenice” – A short macabre story about a man who is the fiancé of a beautiful girl with a disease that’s tearing her body apart. All except for her teeth, that is. His obsession with her sparkling smile comes to light in a disturbing twist.

“Poe” – Join Mr. Poe as he recites some of his most popular poetic works, including his grim classic “The Raven,” as well as “Dream Within a Dream,” and “To One In Paradise.”

In addition to show-only tickets, combination meal and show tickets are also available. Patrons can enjoy a selection from a lunch or dinner menu in the Anchor & Mermaid Tavern, adjacent to Mount Hope Mansion beginning two hours prior to their scheduled Poe Evermore performance. Swashbuckler Brewing Company beers and Mount Hope Wines will also be available for purchase from the bar during the performances.

Mount Hope Estate & Winery, home of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, is located on Route 72, half a mile south of PA Turnpike exit 266. For details and pricing, visit
