According to officials at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area, the recent influx of Snow Geese and Tundra Swans appears to indicate that the opening salvo of the 2016 spring migration is underway.

With small areas of open water beyond the Willow Point observation area slowly expanding, the number of Snow Geese has climbed from a few thousand last week to an estimated 20,000-plus Monday.

Middle Creek manager Jim Binder estimated the count rose by another 10,000-plus Tuesday morning.

Barring any weather-related issues, the Pennsylvania Game Commission plans to open the Middle Creek Tour Road to the public Tuesday, March 1.
