Family night at Lititz Borough Hall

Sgt. Stephen Detz was joined by his family, including daughters Chloe and Haley and wife Teresa, in borough council chambers Dec. 29 for recognition of his recent promotion.
Detz promoted to sergeant
Chloe and Haley Detz could not have been any prouder of their father on Dec. 29.
That’s when Stephen Detz was officially sworn in as a sergeant in the Lititz Borough Police Department. When it came time for Mayor Timothy Snyder to swear in the new sergeant, Detz’s two little girls were right there. Chloe removed his officer badge, while Haley proudly pinned on his new sergeant badge.
Detz was surrounded by more than two dozen family members and friends at the ceremony. He was joined by parents, aunts, uncles, cousins and his wife Teresa and their two daughters.
“This is one of the biggest crowds we have had at a borough council meeting,” said council president Karen Weibel. “Welcome!”
Detz’s swearing in took place at the beginning of the Lititz Borough Council meeting. He was approved as a sergeant in late November. His new position became effective Jan. 1, 2016.
Detz joined the Lititz Borough Police Department in June of 2003, after graduating from the Reading Police Academy 2001 and Alvernia College with a bachelors degree in criminal justice in 2002. He had been employed by the Berk’s County Sheriff’s Department.
According to Lititz Borough Police Chief William Seace, Detz has received specialized training as a Field Training Officer (FTO), TASER Instructor, OCAT Instructor, Baton/ASP Instructor, Use of Force and Force Analysis, Bike Officer, and department training officer. He is also an active member of the South Central Task Force.
“This is a great moment for me and for my family,” said Detz. “I am
happy to have everyone here with me.”
