Warwick swimmers sweep Catholic to stay unbeaten

Jonathan Zartman and Ryan Mitchell each won an individual event and competed on two first-place relays, while Emily Cameron took home a pair of individual victories, as the Warwick boys and girls swimmers remained unbeaten last Thursday with a non-league sweep of host Lancaster Catholic.

Overall, the Warrior boys (3-0) claimed gold in eight of 11 events, with five different swimmers accounting for individual wins, leading them to a 119-51 decision over the Crusaders. The Warwick girls (3-0), meanwhile, got a pair of relay wins from the team of Morgan Haney, Brianna Olivieri, Sarah Cunliffe and Gray in a 113-53 conquest.

That foursome touched the wall first in the 200 medley relay in 1:50.74 and the 200 free relay in 1:50.74. Haney also added an individual victory in the 100 free in 55.17 seconds, while Cameron took the 200 free in 2:07.36 and 100 breaststroke in 1:08.41.

Other individual wins for Warwick came from Maddie Schouten in the 100 butterfly (1:04.78), Emily Griest in the 500 free (5:24.86) and Danielle DePerrot in the 100 backstroke (1:07.76).

Turning to the boys, Ryan Mitchell was first in the 50 free (23.14) and joined Jack Lance, Nick Beard and Cole Cicala on the winning 200 medley relay (1:48.49), along with Justin Mitchell, Zartman and Tim Griest on the first-place 400 free relay (3:36.32). Zartman won the 100 free in 50.92 seconds and also was a member of the first-place 200 free relay (1:33.73) with Seth Cagno, Beard and Cicala.

Other individual winners for the Warriors were Justin Mitchell in the 200 free (1:49.99), Tyler Steudel in the 100 fly (58.96), and Lance in the 100 back (1:02.00).

Last Tuesday, Dec. 18, Ryan Mitchell was a double individual winner in the 50 free (23.12) and 100 back (59.32), leading the Warwick boys to a convincing 128-41 win over L-S. Griest, Cameron and Haney won two individual events apiece in the girls meet to lead Warwick to a 106-64 victory over the Lady Pioneers.

Griest touched the wall first in the 200 free (2:02.26) and 100 free (57.26), Cameron took gold in the 200 I.M. (2:09.43) and 100 back (1:00.58), and Haney was victorious in the 50 free (24.80) and 500 free (5:29.11).

Olivieri and Schouten also picked up first-place points in the 100 fly (1:03.74) and 100 breaststroke (1:11.47), respectively, and the Lady Warriors swept the 200 medley relay (2:00.98), 200 free relay (1:50.82) and 400 free relay (4:05.95).

In boys action, joining Mitchell with individual wins for the Warriors were Justin Mitchell in the 200 free (1:49.51), David Heckel in the 200 I.M. (2:16.63), Steudel in the 100 fly (58.09), Cicala in the 100 free (52.82), Griest in the 500 free (5:00.43) and Beard in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.23).
