Mailbox issue Elizabeth Twp. waiting for post office response

By: MELINDA ELMER Record Express Correspondent, Staff Writer

A few residents of Acorn and Long lanes attended the Elizabeth Township Board of Supervisors meeting Monday night to learn what progress has been made regarding an ongoing disagreement over the placement of 30 mailboxes.

Supervisor Rodney May said that the township had written a letter to the Lititz Post Office asking if the mailboxes could be placed about 650 feet up Acorn Lane, a private drive. The post office does not normally deliver mail on private driveways.

According to May, the post office has sent the question up the chain of command. He has not gotten a reply or an answer.

May told the residents that all further discussion of the matter will be tabled until the Oct. 8 meeting when the township solicitor will be in attendance to answer questions about clear line of sight triangles, right-of-ways and the driveway ordinance.

Long Lane resident Sharon Getz said that she had looked at the township’s ordinance online and said that Long Lane should have a posted speed limit of 40 mph rather than the unposted defacto limit of 55. The township secretary will seek further information from the road superintendent.
