Gale steps down as Warwick baseball coach
By: BRUCE MORGAN Record Express Sports Editor bmorgan.eph@lnpnews.com, Staff Writer

Lititz Record file photoMatt Gale (left), shown here talking to catcher Brian Eshleman during the 2011 L-L League playoffs, compiled a 37-30 overall record in three seasons as Warwick's head coach.
You might need a program to watch Section One baseball games next spring.
As much to know who the coaches are, let alone the players.
There will be three new skippers patrolling dugouts in the section in 2012. The third of those openings came up last Tuesday, Aug. 14 when Warwick’s Matt Gale submitted his resignation to athletic director John Kosydar.
Cedar Crest and Hempfield will also have new pilots due to Chris Groff and Jack Merrifield having previously stepped down.
For Gale, the move became necessary after he accepted a position as assistant principal at Emmaus High School earlier this month. Although he acknowledged that it was a difficult decision, Gale believes that the move was the right one for his professional career.

Miles in Memory of Josh set for Aug. 26
On Oct. 24, 2001, life was cut short for Warwick High School grad Joshua Montpetit who died of complications from a congenital heart condition called transposition of the great vessels. Since Josh’s death, his family has been coordinating an annual event called "Miles in Memory of Josh." This year’s event will take place Sunday, Aug. 26. Registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. and the ride will follow promptly at 1 p.m. The purpose of the event is two-fold. First, is to keep the memory of Josh alive, and the second is to raise funds for the Joshua Montpetit Foundation. There is a minimum sponsorship of $10 per adult requested.
Originated in 2001, the foundation was initially created to honor Josh by awarding scholarship monies to two areas that reflect Josh and his life — the Warwick basketball program, where he served as an assistant coach, and also to any Warwick student that has faced challenges in their lives who apply and write an essay sharing how their life and Josh’s parallel.
Today, the family continues to support these two areas, but has also broadened the criteria of the foundation to also consider a variety of opportunities within the community that will bless individuals or organizations that demonstrate a need that are in line with the mission of the Joshua Montpetit Foundation.

Piggybackers Yard sales cash in on craft show
By: CORY VAN BROOKHOVEN Record Express Correspondent, Staff Writer
The 2012 Lititz Rotary Craft Show is now in the history books, and proved to be a huge success yet again this year. Thousands of curious shoppers from near and far took to the streets of our wonderful downtown to purchase a variety of handmade goods — many even arriving extra early to get "first dibs" on the best of the best that the hundreds of artisans had to offer.
Although the craft show took place along some of the main roads of Lititz, there was another summertime tradition that took place in many other locations of our town as well.
The yard sale.
Waking up while it was still dark out, I exited my apartment and headed for a large dark roast coffee to go. The time of day was 6 a.m., and I was met on the sidewalks of South Broad street before sunrise with many craft show vendors busily putting together their tents, constructing their tables of goods just right, and getting ready for their busy day. Their half-open eyes met mine, after which they nodded and continued working on.

Our top 10 crafts at this year’s Rotary show
By: JANET SCOUTEN Record Express Correspondent, Staff Writer
Stuff on a stick, wooden boxes for dog toys, Christmas ornaments and decorations, steering wheel covers, propane tank cozies, yard art, signs, signs and more signs, baby doll bunk beds (in double and triple bunks).
Items that stood out as strange, wonderful, impressive, or simply unusual at last Saturday’s Lititz Rotary Craft Show:
Lititz Record Express Wagon
In addition to their other assorted crafts and antiques, Becky and Bill Mueling of Yummerdale Crafts in Lititz restore old red wagons by adding a fresh coat of paint and lettering. Bill once worked as a paperboy, so he added the logos as a nostalgic nod to his first job.
Buckshot
It’s not every day that you find a "fun game for all ages" that involves spent buckshot casings. In this innovative and educational game sold by Gene and Patti Havlik of Robesonia, players roll the dice, adding the numbers, and tip forward the numbered buckshot that match their total. If they manage to tip forward all the casings during their turn, winners of each round yell, "Buckshot!"

"I want to thank the constituents of the 97th Legislative District for giving me the distinct honor and privilege of representing them in Harrisburg over the past six years. Serving as their state representative has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, and I am very proud of what we were able to accomplish together," Bear said.
Since taking office, Rep. Bear has held numerous leadership positions, including being named to Gov. Tom Corbett’s transition team, serving as vice chairman of the House Labor and Industry Committee and as vice president of Pennsylvania’s State Public School Building and Higher Educational Facilities Authorities’ Board of Directors.
