Warwick senior goalkeeper Jake Watson finished with a 67.3 save percentage this spring, second in the L-L League only to Ephrata's Brian Neff, while becoming the first player in the history of the Warriors' lacrosse program to earn All-America honors.
Jake Watson gave the Warwick boys lacrosse coaches an early glimpse of his abilities when he was still just in eighth grade.
With the Warriors playing in an off-season winter league in Palmyra, they found themselves short a goalkeeper on one particular Saturday.
Watson received a telephone call and the rest is history.
"We knew we had something special in Jake in his eighth-grade year," Warwick skipper Chris Schmehl said. "He did pretty well. He held his own, so we knew he was going to be good in the near future."
It’s safe to say that Watson fulfilled that potential. The senior keeper, who helped lead the Warwick boys to the District Three Triple-A playoffs this spring, was recently named a U.S. Lacrosse All-American. He earns the distinction of becoming the first player in the Warriors’ program history to win that honor.

Manheim Central's softball players hoist the Lancaster-Lebanon League championship trophy skyward after defeating Conestoga Valley 2-1 in the finals last Thursday at Willow Street's Garrett Park. Brittiny Griffith's fourth-inning home run -- her second of the playoffs -- was the difference in the Lady Barons' win.
Warwick thought it had a double play.
Instead, Wilson had only one out — and life — in the top of the fifth inning trailing 1-0.
Four hits later, the 11th-seeded Lady Bulldogs took a 4-1 advantage and it was a lead they never lost, as they defeated the 6th-seeded Lady Warriors 5-2 in a District Three Quad-A softball game at Manheim Central on Tuesday night.
While Wilson (16-6) advanced to Thursday’s quarterfinal round to face Dallastown, a 1-0 winner over Governor Mifflin, the Warwick girls ended their season with a 16-6 record for the second year in a row.
Things were looking positive for the Lady Warriors through four innings, clinging to a 1-0 lead thanks to Cassidy Godber’s hard-hit triple to right and Karlie Watson’s RBI ground out to shortstop.

Groves wins bronze in the District shot DISTRICT THREE TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS At Shippensburg University (AAA BOYS) (AAA GIRLS)

Warwick's Bailey Groves won the District bronze in the shot put for the second time in her career last Saturday with a throw of 37-7 3/4.
Even before last weekend’s District Three Triple-A Track and Field Championships got underway at Shippensburg University, Bailey Groves and Warwick throwers coach Alex Daecher were talking about their training plans for States.
If the idea was to give Groves a confidence boost in the girls shot put, it worked.
On her second attempt in the prelims, the Warwick senior popped a throw of 37 feet, 7 3/4 inches — her longest in two years. It was good enough to clinch the second District bronze medal of her career, and yes, to punch her ticket to the PIAA Championships, set for this Friday and Saturday back at Ship.
"(Bailey) stepped up to the plate and she did great," Daecher said.
Groves and Daecher both agreed at the end of the L-L League Meet — where she won silver with a throw of 35-2 — that there was more left in the tank. So under the watchful eye of Daecher, Groves, who had thrown a season best of 37-4 at Manheim Township, went to work on a couple of adjustments.

Three MC athletes advance to State Track

Cole Proffitt had no margin for error.
Having fouled on his first two javelin attempts in the prelims of the District Three Triple-A Track and Field Championships last Saturday at Shippensburg University, it all came down to one throw for the Manheim Central junior.
"I was talking to (Cocalico’s) Kyle (Felpel) and all of a sudden, I was like, ‘Wow, this is a State thing right here. If I don’t throw this, then I’m not at States.’ So after I realized that, it was a lot more nerve-wracking."
Proffitt, though, kept those nerves in check and unleashed a throw of 187 feet, 3 inches, meeting the State-qualifying standard of 178-0 and punching his ticket to the finals. There, his heave of 191-0 earned him the silver medal, behind only Robert Doster of Middletown, who won gold with a personal-best 200-0.
"I’m not exactly happy with (191-0), but it’s alright. I finished in second place," Proffitt said. "I’m still happy with that."
