Arlene M. Krall97, pastor’s wife, Lititz
Arlene M. Krall, 97, of Lititz, died Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Landis Homes.
She was born on Tuesday, June 2, 1914 to the late John H. Shearer and Bessie Mae (Dohner) Shearer in Lebanon.
She was a member of Midway Church of the Brethren and was a pastor’s wife.
Surviving are daughters: Lorraine, wife of Lee Gernert, of Leola; Dorothy, wife of Guy Gernert, of Lebanon; Louise, wife of James Wolgemuth, of Lancaster; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two step-great- grandchildren; and sister: Verna Sanger.
She was preceded in death by husband: Cyrus B. Krall; and brother: Woodrow Shearer.
Funeral services were held on May 27 at Midway Church of the Brethren, Lebanon. Burial was held at Midway Brethren Cemetery, Lebanon, following the service.

Caleb K. Hershey80, Penn Township farmer
Caleb K. Hershey, 80, of Manheim, died peacefully surrounded by his family at his home Wednesday, May 23, 2012.
Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late Reverend Graybill and Orpha Kulp Hershey.
Caleb was the owner and operator of his own farm in Penn Township and later was employed at the Manheim Auto Auction for 40 years. He was the loving husband of Goldie M. Baker Hershey, and they observed their 50th wedding anniversary in April.
Caleb was a member of Conewago Church of the Brethren in Hershey. He was also a member of the Manheim Sportsmen’s Association and the National Rifle Association. Caleb’s interests included hiking, small game hunting (especially hunting grouse) and spending time in the mountains. He was a Harley-Davidson motorcycle enthusiast and was passionate about riding his Harley anytime he had an opportunity; he participated in many charity rides in support of local organizations.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son: Dean A. Hershey, of Manheim; a daughter: Kim M., wife of Keith R. Yocum, of Mohnton; two grandchildren: twins Ambria and Bodi Yocum; and three brothers: John K., husband of Reba Hershey, and Daniel K., husband of Joretta Hershey, all of Manheim; and Jacob K., husband of Verna Hershey, of Lititz.

Melvin G. Esch62, Ephrata
Melvin G. Esch, 62, of Ephrata, passed away suddenly from a motorcycle accident Thursday, May 24, 2012.
He was the son of the late Mahlon and Violet (Miles) Esch and was the husband of Lois (Nolt) Esch.
Funeral services will be announced at a later time because his wife is currently in the hospital recovering from the accident.

J. Donald Dull86, WWII, Iwo Jima veteran
J. Donald Dull, 86, of Brethren Village and formerly of Quarryville, went home to be with his Lord Friday, May 25, 2012.
Born in Lampeter, he was a son of Newton and Elizabeth (Witmer) Dull. He was married to Marie Hilton Dull for 66 years in April.
Don was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. During World War II, he served on the U.S.S. Fremont APA 44 as a Pharmacist Mate Second Class. He also served in the South Pacific and was a witness to the flag being raised at Iwo Jima.
Don held several jobs but spent most of his career in sales, working for Queen Dairy and Calder Doors. After retiring, Don spent time working as a C.N.A. at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Donald had many memberships; he was most proud of his 46 years of service in the Lions Club, where he received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. He was a member of Faith Reformed Presbyterian Church, where he served as secretary of trustees, head usher, and Sunday school teacher. He was currently attending Harvest Presbyterian Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the Bear Trap Lodge.

Ryan M. Diehl33, Warwick grad, photographer
Ryan M. Diehl, 33, of Pottstown, formerly of Lititz, lost his battle with melanoma Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Memorial SloanÂKettering Cancer Center in New York City, N.Y.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Richard A. Diehl and Paula M. Kerstetter Diehl of Lancaster. He was the husband of Megan M. Weir Diehl of Pottstown.
Ryan was a graduate of Warwick High School and Millersville University with a degree in communications. He worked for several local television stations as a cameraman and photographer. Most recently, he was employed by Firestone Tire in Trooper as tire sales manager. He enjoyed the beach, traveling, sports and cars as well as spending time with friends and family. But mostly he loved being with his wife, Megan, who provided the steadfast support for him to pursue his dreams. His smile and sense of humor will be missed, but his spirit lives on in our hearts.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by two brothers: Jason T. Diehl, of Lancaster; and Nathan T. Diehl, of West Chester.
A celebration of life was held at Bear Creek Resort, Macungie, on May 25.

Chase M. WeaverManheim
Chase Matthew Weaver was stillborn Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the Women’s and Babies Hospital.
Chase was the son of Angela Gainer Ortlieb and Earl Matthew Weaver, Manheim.
His maternal grandparents are Janeane and Donald Gainer, of Lititz; and maternal great-grandparents are William De Santis and Evelyn Miller. His paternal grandparents are Barbara and Earl Weaver, of Manheim; and paternal great-grandparents are Eleanor and Amos Martin, of Lititz.
We wish to thank the staff at Women’s and Babies Hospital for their exceptional care and support during this unhappy time.
A private graveside service was held on May 23 at Bergstrasse Cemetery, Ephrata, with the Rev. Lou Astuto from the Manheim Brethren in Christ Church officiating.

Catherine K. Esch89, Oregon Dairy employee
Catherine K. (Nafziger) Esch, 89, of Lititz, formerly of Ashlea Gardens, New Holland, died Thursday, May 24, 2012, at Landis Homes in Lititz, after a brief illness.
Born in Milbank, Ontario, Canada, Catherine was the daughter of the late Elia and Magdalena (Boshart) Nafziger. Her husband, Wilbur C. Esch, died in 2008.
Catherine worked part-time as a waitress and most recently at Oregon Dairy in the restaurant. She was a member of the Ridgeview Mennonite Church, the New Holland Senior Citizens, the Goldenaires Senior Citizens Chorus, the W.M.S.C. Sewing Circle at Ridgeview, the Youth for Christ Ladies Auxiliary and the Country Gardeners Club of Blue Ball. She also volunteered with the Ladies Auxiliary at the Water Street Rescue Mission and the Reuzit Shop.
Surviving are four sons: James W., husband of Eunice (Lehman) Esch, of Adamstown; Earl L., husband of Etta (Stoltzfus) Esch, of Leola; Arland E., husband of Lori (Rabe) Rigdon Esch, of Lebanon, Ohio; and W. Theodore, husband of Lois H. (Musser) Esch, of Denver; two daughters: W. Charlene, wife of Dervin Hart, of Manheim; and Christine E. Esch, of Lancaster; 21 grandchildren; two step- grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; a brother: P. Melville Nafziger, of Lititz; and a sister: Adeline King, of Lititz.

Margaret E. Canning101, Moravian Manor resident
Margaret E. (Berkhout) Canning, 101, went to the arms of her Lord May 23, 2012 at Moravian Manor, Lititz.
She was the wife of the late Luke W. Canning, with whom she shared 68 years of marriage, and was born in Hackensack, N.J. on Feb. 22, 1911.
She was the daughter of the late Emilie (Hannaman) and Peter C. Berkhout.
Margaret was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Lancaster and past member of St. Anne’s and St. John Neuman’s senior groups. She worked at Permutit and retired from Moore Dairies, Lancaster, as office manager. She enjoyed traveling and crocheting and many crafts.
Surviving are daughters: Doris J., wife of Donald Hevener, of Lititz; Nancy J., wife of Lester Farmer, of Wyomissing; and a niece: Carol Hanley, of Kentucky; nine grandchildren; and many great- grandchildren.
She was predeceased by sons: Donald and William G. Canning; and a brother: Edwin Berkhout.
Margaret’s life celebration service was held at Steinman Hall, Moravian Manor, Lititz, on May 26 with Chaplain Richard Thierolf officiating. R. Elaine Bailey79, teacher, Rothsville graduate
R. Elaine Bailey, 79 of Manheim, formerly of Rothsville and Willow Street, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Pleasant View Retirement Community.
She was the wife of Glenn L. Bailey for 57 years.
Born in Rothsville, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Kathryn Graybill Zook.
Elaine was a graduate of Rothsville High School, class of 1950. She was also a graduate of Juniata College, class of 1954, earning her bachelor’s degree in elementary education.
Elaine was a homemaker and an elementary school teacher. She taught second grade at the Ephrata Elementary School and Nathan Schaeffer Elementary School in Manheim Township. She was a member of Grace Church at Willow Valley and West Willow United Methodist Church. She served as choir member and director as well as with the children’s and music ministries at West Willow United Methodist Church. She enjoyed boating, camping and sewing.
Surviving in addition to her husband is a daughter: Jodi L., wife of Nickolai Wells, of Gainesville, Ga.; and a son: Chuck, husband of Brenda Bailey, of Shippensburg; three granddaughters: Laura, wife of Joshua Peterson; Katelyn, wife of Chris Pare’; and Emily Wells; three great-grandchildren; and a sister: Jo Muth, of Manheim.
