Barry L. Knight60, Longenecker’s employee, raced micro midget cars

Barry L. Knight, 60, formerly of Penryn, died peacefully at home in Manheim surrounded by his family.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Emerson L. Sr. and Alverta Rudy Knight. Barry was the loving husband of Penny J. Hippensteel Knight.

He worked in the delivery department for Longenecker’s Hardware, Manheim. Previously he was employed by Horst Auction Center, Ephrata; IGA Stores in Lancaster County; and in his early years was the owner and operator of the former Knight’s Meats in Penryn. Barry enjoyed racing micro midget race cars and was a member and past president of Lanco Micro Midget Race Club. He was also a member of the Manheim Masonic Lodge 587. Throughout his life Barry had a passion for his family and loved spending time with his granddaughters.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a son: Jon Knight, of Manheim; a daughter: Tanya S., wife of Doug Coonan, of Lititz; three granddaughters: Mariah Knight, Marlaina and Myla Coonan; and a brother: Dr. Emerson L. Jr., husband of Diane L. Knight, of Harrisburg.

His funeral was held at the Buch Funeral Home, Manheim, on Dec. 3. Interment took place in Penryn Cemetery. A Masonic service also was conducted by his lodge.
