Robert G. Shupp75, roofing company owner, avid hunter

Robert Gary Shupp, 75, of Manheim, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011 at his residence.

He was born in Denver to Clair and Anna (Ruth) Shupp and was the husband of the late Carol Shupp, who died in 1993.

Gary was an avid hunter, a Steelers fan and he enjoyed cooking. He was owner of Shupp’s Roofing. He previously worked at Gooding, Simpson and Mackes.

He is survived by two daughters: Tammie Sauder, companion of Donald Dull, of Ephrata; and Marge, wife of Robert Reider, of Denver; twin sisters: Sharon Seneft and Karen Levering, both of Ephrata; grandchildren: Trista Sauder and Angela Jean, wife of Mark Stedman, of Maimi, Fla.; and Jennifer Lynn, wife of Sam Hoskins, of State College; great-grandchildren: Susannah, Eliana and Joy Hoskins; and Nathaniel, Ethan, Faith, Martha and Judah Stedman.

An interment service will be held promptly at 9 a.m. on Dec. 5 at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Township, with full military honors accorded. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the Reformed Presbyterian Church, 21 E. Locust St., Ephrata, with Pastor Tom Nicholas officiating. A fellowship luncheon will be held immediately following in the church social hall. All are welcomed to attend.

Michael D. Shank57, owned pest control business

Michael D. Shank, 57, of Manheim, died unexpectedly Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011 at St. James Mercy Hospital, Hornell, N.Y.

Born in Lebanon County, he was the son of the late Lester R. and Meda White Shank. Michael was the husband of Debra Doner Shank, and they celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary in June of this year.

He was owner and operator of Michael D. Shank Pest Control, Manheim. Previously, he worked 25 years at the former Raymark Industries, Manheim, and at the former Cope’s Food Products, Elizabethtown, for five years. Michael graduated from Manheim Central High School in 1972. He was a member of the NRA and various local and regional gun clubs. Michael enjoyed hunting, fishing and target shooting.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a stepdaughter: Rebecca, wife of Anthony Sudbury, of Annville; two step-grandsons: Eric and Nicholas Sudbury; a sister: Janet "Bonnie," wife of Duke Leeper, of Ephrata; two nieces; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Allen Richard Ruhl.

Funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family.

Edith H. Oren78, R.R. Donnelly secretary, Manheim High grad

Edith H. Oren, 78, of Lancaster, died Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, at her residence, after a brief illness.

She was the widow of Donald B. Oren, who died this past October. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Isaac and Dorothy (Davis) Hershey.

She was a graduate of the former Manheim High School, class of 1951. Edith was a secretary at R.R. Donnelly of Lancaster for 24 years before retiring in 1990. She was an expert bridge player, an avid Boston Red Sox fan, and enjoyed spending time at Hilton Head Island with her late husband.

Surviving are two sons: Ted Fry, of Philadelphia; Ken, husband of Missy Fry, of Lancaster; three grandchildren; a brother: Davis, husband of Diana Hershey, of Redwood City, Calif.; and a sister: Betsy, wife of Don Farmer, of Manheim.

A time of visitation and remembrance was held at the Buch Funeral Home, Manheim, on Nov. 21.

Norman A. Martin88, Brethren Village resident

Norman A. Martin, 88, formerly of Kearny, N.J., died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011 at Brethren Village, Lancaster.

Born in Kearny, N.J., he was the son of the late John S. and Florence M. Ferguson Martin. He was married for 67 years to Elizabeth A. Waugh Martin.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Karen E., wife of Robert DeBell, of Gaithersburg, Md.; Barbara M., wife of George Droz, of Lancaster; and two grandchildren: Daniel R. and Dana E. Droz.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Robert J. Martin.

Funeral services were held from the First Baptist Church, Kearny, N.J. on Nov. 19, with interment following in Arlington Cemetery.

Emily M. Liddick65, Lititz resident, gardening enthusiast

Emily Maurer Liddick, 65, of Lititz, passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011 at her home.

Born in Lebanon, she was the daughter of the late Elmer "Blondie" Maurer and Joyce (Fox) Maurer. She was married to Michael Liddick for 41 years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three brothers: William E., husband of Carol Maurer, of Mahwah, N.J.; Earl P., husband of Douchka Maurer, of Palm Harbor, Fla.; and Gernant E., husband of Suzanne Maurer, of West Chester; a niece: Lillian Maurer; and nephew: Eric Maurer.

Emily was raised in Sayre and graduated from Sayre High School. She was an out-reaching and caring person who loved gardening and children, including her grand niece and nephew.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Nov. 27 at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz.

Laura H. Dull87, shoe industry worker, Sunday school teacher

Laura H. Dull, 87, of Lititz, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011 at Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center.

Born in Warwick Township, she was the daughter of the late Elmer V. and Priscilla Herr Good and the wife of the late Harold S. Dull.

A graduate of Warwick High School, Laura was a member of Brunnerville United Methodist Church, where she formerly taught Sunday school. She worked in the shoe industry and enjoyed doing word puzzles and watching her favorite TV shows.

Survivors include her children: Geraldine K. Heiser, of Lititz; Eugene R. Dull, of Lititz; Lamar J., (Wanda) Dull, of Manheim; Nevin H., (Penny) Dull, of Manheim; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great- great-grandchildren; sister: Mabel Ruhl, of Manheim; and brother: Vernon, (Nancy) Good, of Westfield.

She was preceded in death by brothers: Harry and Ray; and a sister: Grace.

Funeral Services were held on Nov. 18 at the Richard H. Heisey Funeral Home, Lititz. Burial will be in Brunnerville United Methodist Cemetery.

Frank P. Cerqua92, Army veteran, Manheim Twp. school bus driver

Frank P. Cerqua, 92, of Lancaster, and formerly of Lititz and Las Vegas, Nev., died peacefully surrounded by his family Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011 at the Lebanon Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Born in Waterford, N.Y., he was the son of the late Peter and Loreta Disantis Cerqua. He was the loving husband of Marlene Adams Cerqua and they observed their 44th wedding anniversary in October of this year.

A highly decorated veteran; Frank served in the U.S. Army during World War II and Korean wars. In his retirement Frank drove school bus drive for the Manheim Township School District. Frank was of the Catholic faith; he was passionate about sports and particularly enjoyed watching his grandchildren play. He greatly enjoyed his bus trips to Atlantic City.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Marie "Toni," wife of Jeffrey Kurtz;,and two grandchildren: Nicholas and Grace Kurtz, all of Lancaster; and two sisters: Lena Comtois and Mary Engleman, all of Waterford, N.Y.

Preceding him in death are two brothers: Leo and Tylio Cerqua; and two sisters: Lillian Centeni and Antionette "Jenny" Lafrati.

Merry Lititz Christmas Santa Claus arrives Dec. 2

In Brief Visits with Santa, carriage rides, storytelling and a town-wide scavenger hunt are only part of the activities planned for children attending "Have Yourself a Merry Lititz Christmas."

The third annual two-day festival will take place on Dec. 2 and 3 in downtown Lititz and will involve the participation of nearly every merchant and organization in a four block radius of the square. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days.

The fun kicks off with Christmas in the Park, where the Lititz Springs Park train station will serve as the hub of activities.

Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive in Lititz on Dec. 2 and will ride around town in a horse drawn carriage until 11 a.m. After that, they’ll be on-hand both days in the Lititz Springs Park caboose for photo ops with the kids.

Free horse-drawn carriage rides will be sponsored by the Lititz American Legion, the Lititz VFW and the Landis Valley Museum.

The free event is recommended for children ages 10 and under, and accompanying adults. A complete list of activities and stations will appear in next week’s Record Express. More CHRISTMAS, page A15
