Max L. Steininger86, WWII veteran, United Zion resident
Max L. Steininger, 86, of Ephrata, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011 at United Zion Nursing Home in Lititz.
He was born in Paxtonville, Snyder County, to the late Charles and Minnie (Kuhns) Steininger and was the husband of Fern (Fasnacht) Steininger.
Max was a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ephrata. He was a member and past commander at Ephrata VFW Post 3376. Max worked at Glen-Gary Brick for 48 years and then worked part-time at Ephrata Agway.
A veteran of WWII as a Navy Seabee, he served in the Pacific on Tinian, Molakai and Okinawa islands.
In addition to his wife, Max is survived by a son: Dennis, husband of Peggy Steininger of Brownstown; a brother: Rod Steininger of Akron; two sisters: Carman, wife of Charles Reddig of Akron, and Judy, wife of John Royer of Mt. Airy; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Kimble, and two brothers, James and Ben Steininger.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 30, 7 p.m. at the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1331 W. Main St., Ephrata, with Pastor Jeffrey H. Goodman officiating. Private interment will take place in the Lincoln Cemetery.
